Whitehill vs Wickersley

Postby Jason on Mon Mar 30, 2009 7:36 am

In our final game of the season we were up against the only unbeaten team in the league.

Nathan and Scott shared the goalkeeping duties along with our usual keeper Reece.

Both games were very tight affairs with some good end to end football. Curtis during the first game was in fine form at the back and on the odd occasion they got round him they came up against Reece in goal who at one point took a couple of atempts to catch the ball due to the ferocity of the shot which he parried superbly all while surrounded by Wickersley players. Lewis carried on from Curtis in the first game with another superb defensive performance which at times was up against kids nearly twice his size. Yet again the size of the opposition didnt phase him at all. Both Nathan and Scott were unflapable in goal. Our breakthrough came courtesy of a well taken corner which was handled in the aea. Callum W saw his first attempt come off the post only for the referee to blow his whistle for a retake due to several Wickersley players encroaching the area before Callum had even kicked the ball. He made no mistake from the second attempt. Panic was now sweeping through the opposition but unfortunately Whitehill just didnt get that extra bit of luck required and ran out of time to the relief of the Wickersley management and supporters who by the expressions on their faces and their shouting thought this would be an easy game.

Congratulations must go to the opposition for going the entire season undeafeted which i pressume is mainly down to their defensive attitude of keeping two players at the back. While successfull it is due to it being hard at times to break down its not as joyfull to watch as a good fluent passing attacking side like ourselves.
smoke me a kipper ill be back for breakfast
